"I was working in cemetery wreckage in the Fukushima prefecture in the aftermath of the 311 earthquake when I came across this sleeping buddha, whose calm and peaceful face appealed to me. Lying on the floor amongst other dismantled gravestones, I remember feeling that his sleepy, almost smiling face—the one embodying his transition to another form of life after death—was there to ease our way through this landscape and its story."
