“My work examines systems, hierarchical structures and ideas related to collecting. I question a collection as a knowledge mechanism that selects, differentiates and classifies, as well as the underlying dynamics that decide what is preserved and remembered versus what is left to decay and be forgotten.
Recently, I expanded my focus to a historic rural farmland in the Dutch countryside, which I see as an "organic collection". The plot serves as a repository of knowledge, an expression of its past, and a resource for understanding ourselves today.
In my work, I cultivate, process and assemble components from the land. This process references “grafting”— a botanical technique used to propagate and renew plants —a metaphor for the progress of the land itself. By rethinking, re-contextualising and reclaiming a site, new relationships are born, and new concepts of nature emerge, encouraging us to reconsider the land, its use, value and legacy."
