Lockdown Collage #213, 2022
Print size: 32 x 22 cm including white border
"My latest collection of work, Lockdown Collages, was made at a farmhouse just outside Cape Town. With my wife and daughters away with family, I worked in acute seclusion for much of the pandemic. Though many of us have felt an uneasiness as we adjust to increasingly distanced lives, I see that sense of space as a critical foundation to my work.
These colourful works see hundreds of encyclopaedic images – from ikebana arrangements and marble faces to kitsch household items and ornate furniture – sliced and stacked into fantastical totem poles. Individually, each is a layered study of pattern, colour, form and texture.”
