“I remember feeling the burning sun on my back as I made this photograph for the second chapter of my project, Venezuelan Youth. The rosary is held against the blue sky by Wanda, a young Venezuelan woman. At the time, she was just 17 years old, and was carrying two baby girls inside her. Soon to be a mother, Wanda was filled with confusion and frustration: her pregnancy was the result of rape. She carries her rosary wherever she goes, as a representation of her enduring faith and hope.”
