The photograph forms part of Country: Portrait of an Indian Village, an extended visual study of the place my family comes from. Our lineage traces back to a woman who escaped a violent feud in the state’s eastern reaches, and this image carries that quiet history: everyday life layered with the weight of movement, refuge, and the small, enduring rhythms of a village that shaped us."
